Mr Rudy Baylor was a fresh law-school graduate. Life had been uneasy for him since college because he had to self-support financially. Don't know why he was the last one finding a job. What's worse was that before reporting duty, he got fired and sacrificed under the merging of the firms. Somehow he got a bit cash and opened his own firm with another paralawyer, Deck. During one of his courses in the final semester, he got one and only one case, which was a bad faith case against an international insurance company.

Although Rudy just came out from college, he had plenty of time and finally some luck, including having the handsome jury, the friendly judge and some good facts. He performed an excellent play in the courtroom. It was exciting and breath-taking going through with him the deposition, the cross-examination and the arguments. His character as the bar was way charming and awesome.

Rudy beat down his rival who was the most expensive and experienced defense lawyer. The verdict of $50M punitive damages was surprising. However, the ending that the insurance company went broke, that Rudy became a murderer of a married man, and vowed never to return his legal practice looked even more shocking to me.

"... that all students enter law school with a certain amount of idealism and desire to serve public, but after three years of brutal competition we care for nothing but the right job with the right firm where we can make partner in seven years and earn big bucks."

"We spend countless hours digging for information we'll never need. We are bombarded with lectures that are instantly forgotten. We memorize cases and statutes which will be reversed and amended tomorrow."

"We both look at Bruiser whose eyes are darting as his mind races wildly with excuses."

"We learned after the first semester in law school that it's best never to discuss exams. If notes are compared afterward, you become painfully aware of things you missed."

"I try to remember something funny during the course of the day, and save it for him."

"I unload some baggage... old grudges are dismissed. Life is too short to despise people who simply can't help what they've done."

John Grisham siempre me cansa.
    En ningún momento cuaja.
