The collected works of Britain’s most wanted artist.

Artistic genius, political activist, painter and decorator, mythic legend or notorious graffiti artist? The work of Banksy is unmistakable, except maybe when it’s squatting in the Tate or New York’s Metropolitan Museum. Banksy is responsible for decorating the streets, walls, bridges and zoos of towns and cities throughout the world.
Witty and subversive, his stencils show monkeys with weapons of mass destruction, policeman with smiley faces, rats with drills and umbrellas. His statements, incitements, ironies and epigrams are by turns intelligent and cheeky comments on everything from the monarchy and capitalism to the war in Iraq and farm animals.

They expect to be able to shout their message in your face from every available surface but you're never allowed to answer back. Well, they started the fight and the wall is the weapon of choice to hit them back.

While I don't support graffiti, I checked out this book because I do support Banksy's outlook on society and government. He puts so many contradictions together that makes you re-examine your view of the world; rioters throwing flowers, soldiers drawing peace symbols, army helicopters with pink bows, starving children with Burger King paper crowns, policemen spray painting a wall and I could go on and on. I really liked one of Banksy's quotes when he said:

"It takes a lot of guts to stand up anonymously in a western democracy and call for things no-one else believes in - like peace and justice and freedom." (pg. 29)
