  • The book was a little confusing with the Blue Bloods family trees and marriages. But overall, this is a very satisfying book. Schylur's and Jack's forbidden relationship sort of reminded me of Bella and Edward from the Twilight Saga, but this series is as far away as possible.

Blue Bloods offers a different take on the stale vampire theme and was interesting to read. I did not give it four stars because the writing was a little erratic for me. It almost seemed that she was working against a timeline to get everything in the first novel that needed to be there. I know that young adult writers feel the need sometimes to limit page numbers in the interest of preserving the attention of a young adult reader but I think that J. K. Rowling and Stephanie Meyer have both proven that page numbers don't matter. Anyhoo, the character of Schuyler Van Alen is set to fight against the bad vampires that are out to suck the blood of the good vampires. I do plan to read the next book in the series Masquerade and see if practice makes the writing better. Again, it was worth reading just for the original vampire take.

I quite like the plot but the development isn't satisfying. The first part is all about how hip and cool these kids are, and there's a lot of brand-name dropping. Then, when the juicy vampire stuff comes up, it's all explained and described quickly, events twist and turn in a matter of 2 lines and the book ends way too soon. Ok, it's only book 1 but I was left with the feeling that a lot more should've been outlined in detail.

An interesting premise that starts very strong but doesn't quite play out. Unfortunately, the end of the book is plagued by multiple plot holes.

  • It's been said before...the constant designer name dropping is annoying, and it doesn't really pick up until the second half. I'll grab the next one just to see what happens though.
