An interesting book, covering a lot of real-world large-scale experiements on our common (mis)conception and myths on various topics. Funnily enough, the book comes with scientific explanation and deduces effective methodlogy for making/identifying lying (short, less personally attached and less elaborative), fake smiles (crinkle smile?), speed-dating, astrology, altruism for similar, humor vs religion.

A nice and entertaining work. One catch is that the surveies the author conducts only reveals the correlation of two entities - they can never tell you the relationship on cause/consequence.

Just in case you dont have time to finish the entire book, read the three-page afterword! it is a must read!

  • Well written insight into some of the stranger things psychologists research, such as the funniest joke in the world, how to write the perfect personal ad and comparing the relative helpfulness and honesty of different groups.

  • Quirky professor, quirky experiments. Makes me want to do my own quirky experiments with unsuspecting strangers. But without any training in psychology, my experiments would probably just turn out to be pranks.

  • Very funny in terms of having all those experiences on what we encounter daily without knowing why. Love the part about what are the best lines in the first date.
