  Intriguing play revolving around the figure of Salome`, a character from the New Testament which became an icon of fin-de-siecle art and literature. This text interweaves typical decadent themes such as eros and death, sexuality, purity and deviance, and as usual Oscar Wilde's prose is luscious yet crystal clear.
  A feminist reading opens interesting perspectives on this story: in fact, here the woman (represented both by the virgin Salome and her corrupt mother Herodias) uses one aspect of the male gaze on women, lustful desire, to annihilate the other, the patriarchal view that chastises female sexuality.

  I kind of liked this one a bit more than the usual Wilde plays. I'm just not much of a fan of wit and humour and this one had a more darker theme. Plus, I've always liked the story about Salomé dancing and then lusting for a dead man's head.
