This was fun read. The narrator did a great job making the characters come to life. The sequel is Inkspell. I loved the concept of this book. I have thought about characters from books being alive, but not being read out of a book.

Amazing story telling! This is what makes a good book even better. The magic of it all was mind blowing and the logic and the sense. I am speechless for words about how much I could praise the novel.

Everything was so clear, it was as if it was happening before me and I was seeing it. Smelling it, Tasting it. I must try an apricot now, the taste and flavor of it, or words, or letters, it is all important and a filler of the soul.

Ashes and fire, hot fire singe the skin and inner being of you. If you love books, this book will take you away to fantastic dreams and horrid nightmares of the worst kind.

There were so many characters, and they all had stories and they all were lifelike, more than just words on the page and in between to covers. This was a true adventure, it wasn't as if it was a huge Hollywood production, the whole thing seemed real, with real people and real places. That was part of what made the unreal and unnatural seem legitimate. Everything was raw and soulful, it tore at you and bit at your emotions. You can really feel and sympathize.

The fourth wall didn't exist at all in this book. The plot was built simply without it, and as a reader, you knew and could see all and control it, as it says within the printed text.

Magnificent story and I am so pleased this is a trilogy. The book ends with loose strings, so it is fitting to see how it is branched off into three books, instead of being one huge novella

I have admit, although I found the book readable and sometimes enjoyable, and of course I like the idea of reading out characters alive from the book, but my problem with this book is that :
-most of characters are 2D-flat and un-attractive
-their actions are sometimes(or most of time) illogic and didn't fit their personnality
-too darn long for such a simple plot
-writing/characters interaction are un-animated and emotionless

so I really regret buying the whole serie 'cos I'll have to read the next 2 books...(sigh)

The author creates a comfortable, classic ambience. Also, characters from a book called Inkheart have been read to life, and since they come from another time, that adds to the feeling of timelessness. I will start the sequal as soon as I can get it from the library.

    The reversed type fairy tale

Well, it's half right. Because the characters would beg you to let them reture the story or them will burn your house. And that is how the story goes in the inkheart. A fighting between the reality and the fiction.
It would be great to let the children read this novel. But for adult, I don't recommend you to read if you want have some different than fairy tale. It's not that so different than fairy tale. If the world of story has been ruined, then you still have to solve it in the world of story, not reality. So, you still have to back to the story line and finish it until the end of story.
It sounds like you read hobbits out of their own story. You still have to send them back to the story and help them solve the mission. So, it's not that threatening or exciting. It just the fairy story plus a button of interaction with reader.
That is why I only give it three star. Well, it's good, but not that surprised. And it's not surprised that it did not bring the storm as Harry Potter. It's too far from that.
