  • Queen of Babble in the Big City By Meg Cabot

Like many young adult authors these days including Zoey Dean and Ann Brashares Meg Cabot, author of The Princess Diaries, has expanded her reach into adult fiction. Cabot's light, humorous voice is just right for chick lit. In Queen of Babble in the ... (read full critics)

I started loving Meg Cabot upon reading "The Guy Next Door" (0330411896), a genuinely humorous and romantic story about boy meets girl. Throughout the years, however, Meg Cabot has gotten a bit too good at pushing the right buttons. Her female leads are always what we girls aspire to be - not fat, pretty, unwittingly charming - plus the usual but forgiven flaws - not terribly smart, babbling, but still loved by family and friends. The guys, on the other hand, are consistently perfect, almost too perfect for the female leads.

Alas, isn't that what we want? A guy perfect in every aspect who nevertheless falls for the imperfect little girl? However, in fulfilling this fantasy, Meg Cabot is turning herself into the likes of Danielle Steele and 岑凱倫, and the story is not just predictable but also tacky.

That being said, sometimes I wouldn't mind reading a book that does not work my brain every once in a while.

I did something on another book site that I NEVER do and that was read this books reviews. Most of the reviews weren't that great and I almost didn't read it because of the reviews BUT I am so glad I went ahead and read it because I loved the book and it's quirky character Lizzie. It isn't a gripping book but it is very light and fun reading. A total chick book.
