A new twist on African Folklore

I thought Gaiman's American Gods was a better story within the same vein. However, if you know a bit about African folklore or are interesting in it, this book has an "inventive" take on them and was entertaining.

Neil Gaiman is very good at drawing ingenious analogies. The sense of being annoyed: like a snag of floss caught in-between your teeth. This is a minor point, though. I'm not a sci-fi fan, but Anasi Boys has brought so much fun that those surreal scenes no longer seemed odd and surreal. I was drawn ... (continue)

Neil Gaiman is very good at drawing ingenious analogies. The sense of being annoyed: like a snag of floss caught in-between your teeth. This is a minor point, though. I'm not a sci-fi fan, but Anasi Boys has brought so much fun that those surreal scenes no longer seemed odd and surreal. I was drawn by the very first line. It's definitely a page-turner, hilarious and intriguing. Caveat: Do not read this book when taking public transportation. It's hardly possible to refrain yourself from bursting into tear-jerking laughter. (Or it's just me...)

撇開其間夾雜的蜘蛛神神話故事，以 melodrama 來形容主線其實並不為過。故事本身或許沒什麼好談的（反正讓讀者看得津津有味就足矣），然而，閱讀過程中間及讀後的感染力頗為深刻。至少對我而言，頗有把壞喵性格獨立抓出來自成個體的想法與衝動。或許創造第二（虛擬）人格正是我們這個時代，將某部分抽離特化的方式。然而，壞喵畢竟不是完整的我，就跟窩在學校混口公家飯吃的那個傢伙也不代表我這個個體一樣。
而家庭之內剪不斷理還亂的糾葛與情感交融與衝突，這就更難與外人道了。不過，家人終究還是家人嘛。年輕時還不覺得，等到兒子居然會找對時機恥笑你「科科」的時候，大概就得開竅了吧。8-p

I enjoyed this but not as much as I normally enjoy Neil Gaiman novels.
