Book Description
The Basis for a New Showtime® Original Series Starring Michael C. Hall
(Sundays at 10pm ET/PT - starts Sunday, October 1, 2006 at 10pm ET/PT)
Meet Dexter Morgan, a polite wolf in sheep’s clothing. He’s handsome and charming, but something in his past has made him abide by a different set of rules. He’s a serial killer whose one golden rule makes him immensely likeable: he only kills bad people. And his job as a blood splatter expert for the Miami police department puts him in the perfect position to identify his victims. But when a series of brutal murders bearing a striking similarity to his own style start turning up, Dexter is caught between being flattered and being frightened–of himself or some other fiend.

A sociopath with a social conscience - what a concept. ;)

I first met Dexter via TV, and was curious to see how much the book would differ. I think that the book fans will still love the show, and the show fans will likely love the books. Of course to us, Dexter is going to already be in our heads, and the TV version can sometimes seem a little cooler, but I really enjoyed the book, and am interesting to see the directions the story will go, as the books go on way, an the show has apparently gone another.
A great suspense/thriller! A crime fighting, total sociopathatic serial killer that only kills the bad guys. That is the hero of the book, Dexter, and you find yourself liking him. I haven't seen the show based on the book but I know I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
Most of the book mirrored a lot of the Showtime series for Season One, but there were some drastic differences at the conclusion of the novel.
A good, easy read, and a very interesting character.
Funny, gruesome, charming -- all in all, a great book. It's nice to find a genuine anti-hero amongst the cluttered halls of "tough (wo)men with a heart of gold."
