  • The Tales of Beedle the Bard

Fans of Harry Potter will already have a few associations with the title of this new book by J. K. Rowling. The first is that The Tales of Beedle the Bard is Dumbledore's bequest to Hermione Granger in the last book in the series, Harry Potter and th ... (read full critics)

I really enjoyed this collection of morality tales! While short in length, they offer keen insights into human nature. JK Rowling channels the Grimm brothers with "The Warlock's Hairy Heart." I really enjoyed this collection of morality tales! While short in length, they offer keen insights into human nature. JK Rowling channels the Grimm brothers with "The Warlock's Hairy Heart." There isn't a weak one in the book and I especially loved Dumbledore's short essays after the tales. This has been a nice treat for all of the Harry Potter fans that have been missing the series a lot. All of the proceeds of this book go to a children's charity, so go out and pick up a copy!

Though the stories may have been "written for children", the vocabulary itself was somewhat advanced for younger readers, but, if my relatives are any indication, still appreciated by them nonetheless. Though the stories themselves may or may not interest older readers (with the exception, perhaps, of "The Warlock's Hairy Heart", which was gruesome as well as taught a valuable message), Dumbledore's witty and occasionally insightful input should be appreciated by fans of the rest of the Harry Potter series. Though it's not the most amazing book in the world, I sure loved reading these stories, and, if I had children, would definitely share these tales with them.

If the Harry Potter series is a 7-course meal, then The Tales of Beedle the Bard is certainly an unexpected but delicious dessert. The whole book can be finished in one sitting, but you will find that you have to read it again shortly, particularly to savour Dumbledore's notes, which are even more delightful than the tales themselves.

  • Really sweet.
I had picked it up, read a story then forgotten about it. Then I picked it up again and finished in less than one hour.
The stories are entertaining, and the "notes by Dumbledore" even more so. Really worth a read or two for a Harry Potter enthusiast.

  • I really can't deny that this lady can write even fairy tales that seem to be meant to be read by baby witches and wizards. I had the real feeling to be reading something traditional!
