Writing as Bachman, I guessed this was going to be a fairly straight ahead thriller - though to be honest I can't often distinguish between the two parts of Kings physche.

A slightly faster paced novel than the majority of Kings efforts it may be - but straight laced it is not. There's the interactive memory of the main characters dead best friend, and plenty of cleverly dispersed flashbacks which tell as much of the story as the present set pieces - coupled with the very real desire for the main character, who's kidnapped a baby, to escape with the money and see no harm.

Not quite as polished as King usually manages, but then considering it was written thirty years ago, I guess that's no surprise - the story even benefits from the fast rough prose and the speedy action.

On a par with Koontz's Icebound, if you're looking for something a little different from your favourite author, or just a quick sharp thriller told from a fresh perspective, this'll do nicely.
