Me and Mr. Darcy Within the space of a month, two chick lit novels appeared in which a modern young woman with Mr. Darcy as her romantic ideal goes on a trip to England inspired by Jane Austen’s novels and is made to test her ideals. Having enjoyed A ... (read full critics)

If you have an adorning affection for Mr. Darcy like half us women out there, or just love chic-lit then I would suggest you pick this up. I would love to step in Emily shoes for one day. I wouldn’t even half to have the hallucinations of the cunning Mr. Darcy; I would just love to tour the country side with fellow book lovers discussing the work of Jane Austen.

    "Mr Darcy! Mr Darcy!"

After the Mark Darcy in Bridget Jones, this is another light-heart reading which is largely based on the same theme. By the way I am a huge fan of Pride and Prejudice , the BBC's adaption (series) and loved the first Bridget Jone's book.

I hadn't read anything by Alexandra Potter before, I bought this due to the title of the book "Me and Mr Darcy", it was definitely a good choice. I like the clever idea of the story.

This is about a modern day Pride and Prejudice between Emily and Spike, and for some reason she met Mr Darcy face to face, at first I thought she will stay with Mr Darcy, but things turn out different. This book keeps me interested from the start to the very last moment, but the ending is a bit rushed.

Actually the charcter development isn't strong, the writer have assumed every reader have read Pride & Prejudice and the lake screen in BBC's adaption.

Hm...the problem of this book...there are SO MANY spelling mistakes (typing mistakes)! Was this book rushed to the market without being edited properly? Or they need a better editor!

  • Very funny book! I like Jane Austen very much, so I'm one of the women who wish to be dating Mr. Darcy, above all after the BBC adaptation and the lake scene...
Even if the book is quite predictable from the beginning, I really enjoyed it.
I hope to take the "Jane Austen" tour myself, someday...

The story starts with a funny beginning which raised my expectation about this book. However, as the story goes along, I found it more predictable and did not have much surprises for me. The ending is a bit too common that I expected a more "unexpected" one. Quite disappointed indeed.

    Me and mister Darcy

I read so many enthusiastic review of this book so I put it in my wish list. I thought I was lucky when I found it in an Oxfam shop in Portobello, but now I wish I read more carefully the reviews and the plot before buying it.

The idea of the book is nice but there was no need of the "magic", mister Darcy could be only a dream and really miss Steane as Jane Austen?
I felt so stupid reading it that I didn't even like the protagonist Emily.
There were so many cliché in this book that was like reading a bad resume of P&P!

For all those who just LOVE Mr Darcy, and those who Loved LOST IN AUSTEN this is the perfect book. Quick to read, some very funny scenes (how useful the comment "seriously" can be!!) and though you may predict the ending already halfway through the reading.. it's worth to still follow the unbelievable experiences of Emily Albright up to the very last pages, that are way too true.

Or better, and here's the spoiler: I tell myself that Spike, in the last pages of this book is right.. the one and only Fitwilliam is just a fantasy.. but I guess that I'd still have serious problems in dumping him. The fact is... I'd dump the Mr Darcy portrayed in this book, cause the way the author sees him makes him look worse than ever expected.. and I believe that was necessary: otherwise, there's no way someone would choose any other man over him.
