  • bellissima la prima metà, quella che aprla della star dei 12 film muti..... e non dico altro;
    la seconda parte....molto meno, quando si narra del "presente" del protagonista...
    L'autore nel concludere la storia fa troppi "giri", inserisce troppe cose, peccato!

    A pensarci forse è proprio questo l'effetto che Auster voleva raggiungere.

    Mi piace molto lo stile di Auster, con divagazioni, riflessioni.
    Mi ha affascinato con il racconto del cinema di Hector Mann, con l'attenta analisi dei suoi film, tanto che mi ha fatto desiderare che fossero stati girati per poterli vedere.

    David Zimmer, un escritor y profesor de literatura de Vermont, ya no es ni la sombra de sí mismo. Se pasa los días bebiendo y cavilando sobre el último instante en que su vida aún podría haber cambiado, el minuto aquel en que su mujer y sus hijos todavía no habían subido al avión que estalló. Hasta que una noche, mirando casi sin ver la televisión, y por primera vez tras seis meses de deambular en el vacío, algo lo hace reír. El causante del ínfimo milagro es Hector Mann, uno de los últimos cómicos del cine mudo. Y David Zimmer descubre que aún no ha tocado fondo, que todavía quiere vivir. Comenzará entonces su investigación para escribir un libro sobre Mann...

    Fue el segundo libro que leí de Auster después de "Mr. Vértigo". Recuerdo que las primeras páginas me resultaron densas, además, lo leí en inglés y quizás eso hizo que se me hiciera más pesado al principio. Pero poco a poco, la historia de David Zimmer y Mann, me atrapó de tal manera que ya no pude dejarlo y se ha convertido en uno de mis libros favoritos de Auster.
    Diría que es una novela íntima, escrita con mucha sencillez, mezclando realidad y ficción.
    A pesar de que al principio pueda parecer más pesada, no lo es, continúa leyendo y te verás inmerso en una preciosa historia de búsqueda y destino.

    This book was a bit of a curate's egg. I thought the first 80 or 90 pages, focussing on the main character, were brilliant. Then the book followed the life of the man he had written a biography of, and this part was less engaging, plus I personally didn't like a section which included graphic sexual details. Finally, the ending didn't ring true to me; it seemed somewhat contrived.
