    I wanted to enjoy this book.. really! I am fascinated in learning about other cultures and building schools is a nobel undertaking. Everything was there to make for a great story except the writing. I was bored to tears. Choppy sentences and a the lack of a coherent structure made reading this book ... (continue)

Everything was there to make for a great story except the writing. I was bored to tears. Choppy sentences and a the lack of a coherent structure made reading this book feel like I was reading a poorly translated instruction manual.

    Despite all the controversy Three Cups of Tea (and its authors) has caused I have to say I really enjoyed it.
    I picked it up because I wanted to learn a bit about Pakistan from somebody I could relate to. I find Greg Mortenson a nice bloke. Humble. Hard-working. Reliable. I'm not surprised t ... (continue)

    Despite all the controversy Three Cups of Tea (and its authors) has caused I have to say I really enjoyed it.
    I picked it up because I wanted to learn a bit about Pakistan from somebody I could relate to. I find Greg Mortenson a nice bloke. Humble. Hard-working. Reliable. I'm not surprised the people in Skardu fell in love with him!
    This biographical book covers about ten years from Monrtenson's life with a fast-speed introduction on his family roots in Africa. You're soon transported to Pakistan and all the areas he travels to within the country to set up new projects.
    Relin covers meticulously (I guess this is the way Mortenson wanted it) every single step Greg takes to accomplish his goals. And yes, at times it becomes a wee bit too detailed (aka boring and long) like I'm sure the road to achieve all his objectives must have been: hard, long and tedious at times.

    This is not a book for entertainment, this is educational material, so to say. So for those who want a fun read, or an adventure book... maybe Three Cups of Tea is no for them.

    However, Three Cups of Tea is for you if you're ready to travel risk-free from your couch to a country that's seen its fair amount of danger and risks.
    In a nutshell, it made me want to volunteer there. Need I say more?

  • Greg is great and noble. The book is a bit difficult to digest though, as there are lots of places and people mentioned but I am forgetful. Would be a good idea if a map is attached in the book.

  • A good story.

    Very inspiring book. How one person can turely touch and change a lot of people's life. Make you want to get up and do something that really matters!

    Actually, 5 stars is not enough for this book!!

    While I was crying over a stupid bad romance, Greg Sahib flying over the war zone to fight terrorism ... with books! What a great life he is having.

    I used to be skeptic about the idea that everybody should have education, because what I was told from I was young is that good education = good job, which is not the case I am facing right now. But after reading this book, I know that at least proper education helps to keep the world in one piece ... in peace.

    Yes, the structure is a bit chaotic, but I think it's because Greg doesn't want to leave out anyone, no matter good or bad, every people he met has give him lessons.

    To Greg Monterson and Tara Bishop ... my highest respect!
