La storia di Werther, che si innamora perdutamente di Lotte, fidanzata e poi moglie di Albert, e non potendo coronare il suo sogno d'amore alla fine si suicida, è raccontata passo passo attraverso una serie di lettere che lo stesso Werther scrive a un caro amico e nelle quali confida la nascita e i successivi sviluppi della sua passione. Nella parte finale, per raccontare gli ultimi giorni di Werther e la sua morte, Goethe introduce la figura di un immaginario editore, che avrebbe appunto raccolto testimonianze e carte relative all'ultimo periodo della vita dell'infelice giovane.

    Fantastico libro, non ci sono parole per quanto può essere reale anche nella vita di oggi. Soffrire per amore è sempre esistito e sempre esisterà.     Fantastico libro, non ci sono parole per quanto può essere reale anche nella vita di oggi. Soffrire per amore è sempre esistito e sempre esisterà. Quell'unico morboso bacio avvenuto tra Carlotta e Werther è stata la sublimazione del loro rapporto. Ecco tutto ciò che voleva Werther : un unico bacio per poter morire felice, beato e contento. La sua missione è compiuta.

    Fantastic book, there are no words for how can be real in life today. Suffering for love has always existed and always will exist. That one morbid kiss occurred between Charlotte and Werther was the sublimation of their relationship. Werther's all what he wanted: a single kiss to die happy, blessed and happy. Its mission is accomplished.
