I hadn't heard of Cecelia Ahern until the movie came out and then I read it was based on a novel. Well I am one of those people who believe the novel is usually better than the movie and will run out to read the book first. I haven't seen the movie yet but now I wonder if it might not have been better.
The story is about Holly, a young woman who's husband has recently died. Holly discovers that her husband left her a series of notes, one for each month, for her to open after his death. I enjoyed the fact that the story is honest in it's portrayal of grief, there are no cliche sappy endings. Actually it is written with a bit of humor and with Holly's crazy family and friends, there are a couple of laugh out loud moments in the book.
However, after reading the book I don't feel like I came away with anything original or any strong emotions one way or another. I could almost see this book written to be made into a movie because I would hope that the visual humor and grief could be portrayed with more emotion on the big screen than what was written in this book.

    • This was a cute book with a good premise behind it, I just think I wasn't interested in this kind of book at the time. I was ready to read something else.

But when you read the book you just ache for Holly (main character) that she found her true love and now he's gone. But at the same time, before he died he thought to do all of these wonderful things for her to help her move on because he knew her so well, he knew she would need that. It's a true love story.

Book Description

A novel about holding on, letting go, and learning to love again.

Now in paperback, the endearing novel that captured readers' hearts and introduced a fresh new voice in women's fiction -- Cecelia Ahern.

Holly couldn't live without her husband Gerry, until the day she had to. They were the kind of young couple who could finish each other's sentences. When Gerry succumbs to a terminal illness and dies, 30-year-old Holly is set adrift, unable to pick up the pieces. But with the help of a series of letters her husband left her before he died and a little nudging from an eccentric assortment of family and friends, she learns to laugh, overcome her fears, and discover a world she never knew existed.

The kind of enchanting novel with cross-generational appeal that comes along once in a great while, PS, I Love You is a captivating love letter to the world!
