  • Funny and lovely. The characters could have been a bit more developed, but they were fun to read. The ending is a little confused and rushed, as it often happens in the big resolutions of Diana Wynne Jones books, but I really enjoyed reading this one.

The house in this book is no less magical than the moving castle in my opinion.

I was stuck by seeing the dog as a male in the first and then they found he is a "she". But this was solved perfectly toward the end.

Love the characters in this book - Charmain and Peter are just like ordinary kids, the cute dog Waif, the loving father Mr. Baker...... but the poor royalties are such pleasant surprise - but i always appreciate the surprises Diana's talent offers.

Looking forward to see the next story(s)!
