Possibly the most tedious book ever written. I'm disappointed that I didn't care for it more - loving Shakespeare and Dante as I do, I thought, "Gee, war in heaven - supercool!" But, alas, no love. Possibly the most tedious book ever written. I'm disappointed that I didn't care for it more - loving Shakespeare and Dante as I do, I thought, "Gee, war in heaven - supercool!" But, alas, no love. If you want to read a superb poem with religious overtones, read "The Divine Comedy" - it's much better. If you feel the need for self-flagellation, force yourself to read "Paradise Lost." You've been warned.
