Stephen King is back in his gloriously creepy fine form. Duma Key is an engrossing thriller that reminds me of the days when he produced pyschological spine tingler's like The Shining. Things that go bump in the night and have the reader hanging on for the ride until the very end. I loved every minute of Duma Key, and it's another reminder that King is still the master of his game.

It has been awhile since I read a good ghost story and this novel by Stephen King did not disappoint. I was drawn into plot very quickly by the dropped hints at something bigger about to be revealed. Edgar is compelling as a narrator because he seems to be so helpless against the forces acting upon him. Miss Eastlake provides the perfect old lady to push things up a notch. Of course, I am a sucker for a story drenched in the lore of the Southern past as well. Highly recommend this book for anyone who just loves a spooky ghost story.

His best novel since Dreamcatcher. I really got engrossed by it, and enjoyed it immensely, except for one event, that while it works great in the flow of the story, still made me sad...but emotional impact is probably a trait of any well-written novel.

  • Slow but quite enjoyable.

The first third is too slow. Not so much action in general, except for the ending. It starts being enjoyable when the main character meets his neighbourghs. Remarkable catch phrases, such as "maybe sì, maybe no", typical of King. Inspirational thoughts about art and life. Not one of his best works.

  • I was enjoying this book until near the end when it suddenly shifts into a lame horror book, with every awful cliched "these characters are making such obvious mistakes" issues. Disappointing.
