A great book that has changed my view on Cantonese and Chinese. While the communist government has been stressing the importance of Mandarin (putonghua), this book serves as a great evidence to fight back. Cantonese is the essence of Chinese culture. It has perserved the great Chinese culture since Tong Dynasty. The author further points out the bad side of Putonghua including the -R sounds which was affected by the barbarians.
Language is the most important component of a culture. It is our job to learn and use our own language. For many years, we have heard of people complaining about the language standards of our students. Yet, take a look at the government notices and press release, you may realise there are tonnes of bullshit. It is either a "direct translation" of English to Chinese or something that you can never understand. The media further promotes this and it ends up we are all speaking bull shit without noticing. My friends, think twice before you speak/ write.
