  This semi-autobiographical work displays Dickens at his best - wry, delicately ironic with a cast of characters both absurd and profound. It's a sentimental favorite of mine.

  Rileggere David Copperfield 10 anni dopo averlo letto la prima volta rende l'esperienza che allora fu magnifica, ancora più vasta e profonda, e vera. In questi 10 anni ho letto tutto Dickens e ho capito che è il mio scrittore preferito perché parla di tutta la vita, e perché ascolta. In questi 10 anni sono diventata mamma, moglie e malata e questo ha aumentato la mia capacità di capire le cose di cui parla il romanzo a un livello più intimo, quieto, limpido. 10 anni fa mi sorpresi a ridere ad alta voce in autobus mentre David si recava dalle zie della sua dolce child-wife, ieri mentre finivo di leggerlo, mi ritrovavo perfettamente in ogni immagine di Betsy Trotwood e nelle risate piene di Peggoty. Ma ancora mi fa ridere, e ancora mi ha fatto piangere, e ancora mi fa aver voglia, magari tra altri 10 anni, di rileggerlo nuovamente.

  Actually I did not re-read it, but I listened to the audiobook.

  The personal History of David Copperfield was Dickens’ favourite amongst his novels and much of it is based on Dickens’ own life. He wrote in his forward to the novel “No one can ever believe this Narrative in the reading more than I have believed in the writing.
  Considered one of the finest novels of the time and loved by other great writers like Henry James, V. Woolf, Kafka, Dostojevsy, Tolstoy. It is a must to read.
  I guess than in real life “loving to distraction” made Dickens’ life pretty miserable compared to Copperfield’s one. :0/
