After reading the two novels of Alex Flinn, I can say that I am now a fan of her works. What made me really love her novels is the fairytale inspiration. I grew up with Disney and it opened me to the fairytale world. As I grew older, I became curious to the real stories or the other versions of the tales. And as I read this modernized Sleeping Beauty, as well as with Beastly, I was open to new perspectives of the story. I was open to the fact that the witch has her reasons why she cursed the princess. I became open to consider other factors that might have affected the witch's intentions and the king's decision. It also made e think about the idea of fate and destiny. Yes, that is possible. I like the irony on how an idea was made realistic through a fairytale-inspired novel. Aside from that, the humor of the author is still intact. I really love how it can make me laugh, grin, smile, smirk, frown, react or think aloud by myself while I'm reading it even if that may look weird for others and embarrassing for me. This shows how the reader can relate to the characters of the book., whether it is a happy, sad, frustrating or a romantic moment. Another is that I love how the author describes every situation and characters in details. It makes you still hope for an ideal situation, ending and character. Like with Jack, I find him really handsome. He looks like a happy-go-lucky jock at first but really has a soft-side. Then with Talia, she was a spoiled, bratty princess but she turned out to be someone who see the good and beauty of a person and she appreciates even the smallest things. Overall, it was a really good book and it is worth the time. Good job, Alex Flinn!
