“My name is Meredith Gentry, but of course it’s not my real name. I dare not even whisper my true name after dark for fear that one hushed word will travel over the night winds to the soft ear of my aunt, the Queen of the Air and Darkness. She wants me dead. I don’t even knowContinue

Meredith Gentry, Princess of the high court of Faerie, is posing as a human in Los Angeles, living as a P.I. specializing in supernatural crime. But now the Queen’s assassin has been dispatched to fetch her back–whether she likes it or not. Suddenly Meredith finds herself a pawn in her dreaded aunt’s plans. The job that awaits her: enjoy the constant company of the most beautiful immortal men in the world. The reward: the crown–and the opportunity to continue to live. The penalty for failure: death.

I was quite entertained in the first chapters, I even found a few interesting things , however, when the main character started to digress about her life, got on the oh-how-hot-and-beautiful -I-can-be/how-hot-all-they-are mode and got entangled in bunch of absurd sexual situations that ended in nothing, I lost interest in the book. Don't get me wrong, I do not hate sex scenes in books, I hate ridiculous sex scenes, written with the only purpose of filling up pages and making oh-how-hot-this-book-is novels.

Those stupid and useless scenes, made the plot go adrift, and when it seemed the story was getting back on track, bum, more unimportant crap spawned here and there and everywhere. This happened a lot, making the book a very frustrating reading experience.

Like all other Laurell K. Hamilton books, this one is quite naughty and very fast paced. Hard to put down, and very engaging.

  • Lacking

This was a painful read. It was a good premise but fell flat and was more of a fairy orgy than an urban fantasy. I liked the story idea but it was just too hard to get through the book. It just didn't flow and bored the dickens out of me.

I was hesitant on this one - knew it would be rather explicit. And I'm rather embarrassed to admit that I actually enjoyed it. It was definitely more explicit than I normally read, but so imaginative! A whole world of fairies and goblins and all manner of magical beings, yet still takes place in modern-day USA. Princess Meredith has been hiding in LA - now she's been found and her aunt, the Queen, has plans for her. Good or bad plans, and will her enemies let her survive to find out?
