Surprisingly I wasn't happy with this book either. LOL. I received a CD full of books and I am reading them in no particular order. This is definitely one I could have done without
"Regretful" is a description well-suited to this unfortunate addition to Martinez's collection. "Gil's All Fright Diner" was a forgettable diversion, though pleasant enough to tempt me into buying another book by this author. "A Nameless Witch" does not share this distinction. Oh, it's forgettable enough. But the pleasure factor was very low to non-existent, for this avid reader. The characters were poorly written, particularly the main character, who spent entirely too much time lamenting her "cursed fate" as an attractive female who wanted to be a traditional, crone-like witch.
There were definitely moments when the reader was reminded that Martinez is, in fact, far better than a C-level writer. The ending note, in particular, definitely added the second star to this rating. However, there was no outstanding originality of plot or even many interesting concepts introduced which would make the reader forget the plainness of the writing or the lack of good characterization.
All in all, an incredibly disappointing book. Try one of the author's other books instead of this one....Continua
