More and more knowledge workers who graduated from academy find job in China mainland. And the speed of capital accumulating cause the middle class vanish in the world.

More and more knowledge workers who graduated from academy find job in China mainland. And the speed of capital accumulating cause the middle class vanish in the world.
In America, some programmers, MBA, and attorney who write papers of action lose their jobs because of Chinese and Indian.
The writer of this book tell his reader that American have to develop their creativity for jobs in America.
The second part of this book tells us how we should develop some ability such as creativity etc.

A pretty insightful book on how we should position ourselves or our children to face the demands of the future workplace.

A pretty insightful book on how we should position ourselves or our children to face the demands of the future workplace.
In the old days, we are trained to become a knowledge worker (left brain learning). But with the avalanche of online information, cheap labor and automation, winning the battle depends more on our right brain. Why? Our success in the future would soon depend on our creativity and tacit knowledge rather than competence or technical manual.
To be specific, the author proclaims the following six senses are highly desirable in the Conceptual Age:
1) Not just functional but also DESIGN (think iPhone / iPad vs other similar products)
2) Not just argument but also STORY (think how we remember things. Facts vs Stories?)
3) Not just focus but also SYMPHONY (think how to bring things together to produce a result better than the sum of the parts. Look Big Picture)
4) Not just logic but also EMPATHY (think we are humans with emotions)
5) Not just seriousness but also PLAY (think humor and laughter)
6) Not just accumulation but also MEANING (think spiritual fulfillment)
Drawing seems to bring a lot of benefits as it requires us to see and connect the dots.
The only cons I can think of this book is that the second part of the book, on the aforementioned six senses, is a bit too long and not concise enough. Because of this I reluctantly mark this book as 4-star.

DESIGN
Design is everywhere and in everything. Today's technology makes design accessible to everyone. The rapid turnover of new products and technology calls for greater innovation in design.
STORY
Roger C. Schank, a cognitive scientist says, "Humans are not ideally set up to understand logic; they are ideally set up to understand stories."Storytelling has always played a strong role in preserving cultural tradition. Stories are easily remembered because they not only capture information and knowledge, but context and emotion as well.
SYMPHONY
Symphony is the ability to synthesize; to put pieces together. People who thrive in this environment see relationships among diverse disciplines and bring those relationships together as new, innovative products.
EMPATHY
Empathy is the ability to imagine yourself in someone else's role and to attempt to experience what they are experiencing. Good leaders are those who can empathize with their constituents.
PLAY
Work and life in general has become too serious causing people to suffer the symptoms of mental and physical stress. The return of play and humor as exemplified in the explosive popularity of video gaming helps to relieve stress enabling workers to become more healthy and
creative.
MEANING
What people are really looking for is not success or more money. What people are really seeking is meaning in their lives and work.
