  Più di dieci anni prima di veder pubblicati i loro lavori più noti, Burroughs e Kerouac scrivono a due mani questa storia ispirata a fatti veri. Ci sono dentro la New York di metà anni quaranta, il Village popolato da una umanità "beata e battuta", ovvero il centro dell'universo narrativo della beat generation, un amore impossibile, un omicidio. Le poetiche dei due che insieme a Ginsberg rappresentano i maìtre a penser del movimento sono già formate: cinico, glaciale, dedito alla pratica dell'humour nero e del viaggio narcotico, Burroughs; idealista e interessato al viaggio soprattutto come spostamento fisico, Kerouac. Detto questo, più che la storia in sé, ad essere avvincente è il motivo per cui è rimasta nel cassetto dal 1945 al 2010, raccontato nella postfazione. Chicca per appassionati.
