    This book holds a special place in my heart. It was my first "big book" when I was 9. It sparked my love of reading, and for that, I will always cherish the trials and triumphs of the orphan girl who just wanted to be loved.

    Some have criticized this book for being overly sentimental. But for those who cannot appreciate the simple charm and captivation of innocent childhood, I have no sympathy. This is a lovely, sweet, enchanting book which every young girl should read.

I fell in love with the characters and have never forgotten a thing about the book. I went on to read the rest of the series and every other book written by L.M. As soon as Anne Shirley arrived at the snug,  white farmhouse called Green Gables, she knew she  wanted to stay forever... but would the Cuthberts  send her back to the orphanage? Anne knows she's not  what they expected -- a skinny girl with decidedly  red hair and a temper to match. If only she could  convince them to let her stay, she'd try very hard  not to keep rushing headlong into scrapes or blurt  out the very first thing she had to say. Anne was  not like anybody else, everyone at Green Gables  agreed; she was special -- a girl with an enormous  imagination. This orphan girl dreamed of the day  when she could call herself Anne of Green Gables.
