While I love King's horror, his straight fiction short stories and novellas show what a truly gifted writer he is. This book contains two of my all-time favorite novellas--"The Body" and "Rita Heyworth and the Shawshank Redemtion"--both turned into two of the best ever King movies.

  • Storytelling at its best. I would have loved to read this before I had seen the movie and found out the ending, but thoroughly enjoyable nonetheless!

"Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption" is the story of a friendship built between two immates of a horrible prision in the fifties. These men share everything and develop a friendship that lasts longer than their prision terms. One man is guilty and the other is innocent. One is educated and the other is just not as fortunate as the rest of us. But im prision all those diferences go away and you are valued for who you really are and how you really can stay alive. One of these two men stayed for 30 years in the prision and after that, he escaped withRita Hayworth's help. His life is comparable to all of us who work for many many years lookin forward to retiring to some far away beach. It is very nice and was very well adapted in the movies, although sometimes it is better to read the prision jargon instead of listening to the "clean" version in a PG movie.

A collection of four Stephen King long stories/novellas, at least three of them absolutely fascinating. And from two of those ("The Body" and "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption") two amazing movies ("Stand by Me" and "The Shawshank Redemption") have been taken. "Apt Pupil" is not worse than either of them as a story, and even the movie is not bad. "The Breathing Method" is in my opinion the less interesting of the stories, the only one that touches somehow horror as a literary genre (while "Apt Pupil" touches the horrors of human nature)... and probably not by chance the only one who has never been adapted into a feature film.
