    Don't waste time ..

This is another bad novel from Grisham. Frankly, it could be written by another person. THe plot is unconvincing to begin with. What is expected to be a climax at the end turns out to be a big disappointment. Save your time and read something else ....

The story is weak, especially comparing to Grisham's earlier work. Each of his novel seems to aim for certain aspect of the judicial system and to try get a point across. Kyle, the hero of this thriller, has a secret that he would rather forget, but someone (or rather some organisation) found out and used it against him, threatening him to spy on his own company.

If Kyle had chosen the right course of action, as he did at the end of the novel, the story would have concluded by the end of chapter 1. Alas, life is not always that simple and it is not easy to act rationally in a difficult situation.

The story was a bit of a let down as I expected a more involved and exciting novel from Grisham.

  • Plot with great potential, but with a lame ending

The plot has great potential. Smart Yale law student was blackmailed and forced to become a spy in the largest law firm in the world.

The plot has great potential. Smart Yale law student was blackmailed and forced to become a spy in the largest law firm in the world.

The book provides detailed description on how the law firm torture their associates. Work like hell. Boring tasks. Unlimited billing. Constant humiliation. These are all interesting.

However, the ending is lame. It ended so suddenly that you wonder: What!? This is the end? What happened?

I would not recommend it unless you are really interested in how associates are being tortured by their law firms.
