Joss Whedon's style is a natural fit for the comics medium. This is a fresh start for my favorite superhero team since childhood, and he expertly balances the dense histories of each character as they must deal with the possibility of losing the very thing that they derive their superiority from: their mutations. Whedon, above all else, gets that the X-Men are a reflection of the social injustice between classes, skin color, and countries.
