I cannot believe I let this sit on my shelf for a year unread. An amazing combination of thriller, comedy, social commentary and probably a few other things. The first 20 pages made me laugh more than all the books I read last year combined. Then Bazell switches gears and the book really takes off. I tried to savor it and gorged without remorse instead, left with feelings of shame and poor impulse control. It's official--I loved this book so much it made me stupid.

  • Can't put it down, can't keep my eyes on the page :)

Great debut, it reminded me of the best Palahniuk with a noir angle. Bazell walks well the fine line between satire and thriller. Even in the most hyperbolic moments, the reader gets the idea that the author knows what he's talking about, then willfully chooses to ignore it. I loved it, and yet I'll ... (continue)

I have never read a book quite like this and I already know that this will be a book I will never, ever forget. The author pushes firmly on the envelope of the reader's comfort zone much the same way Quentin Tarantino does in his movies. I was listening to the audio of this while driving this weekend and could barely keep the car on the road (or my lunch down for that matter) while Chapter 23 was playing. Definitely not recommended for the faint of heart, but nearly impossible to put down if you dare to pick it up in the first place.
