An Odyssey! It was not easy to get to the end of this book, with a crowd of characters wandering through China's 20th century. I really did not expect anything like this, a picaresque, sometimes paradoxical narration, that reminds me Gunter Grass epic and grotesque one. And once again women are the ones to carry on things, wade across the difficulties and the uncertainties of a huge country undergoing massive transformations.

so sorry, had to give up, I was loosing track of the characters and ther mis/adventures, I could not remember who was who and did what, perhaps the chinese names made it difficult to follow the stories. However, sometime, someday, I will pick it up and try again.
