Daniel Wallace's magical first novel, Big Fish, is told as a series of legends and myths inspired by the few facts that William knows. His father's past was buried in the tales. As a son he was tired of not knowing who his father really was or what his father actually did. Only until his father's death did he realize that the truth was not what he needed. The existence of someone is not about existence per se, but about how people know or remember him as a person.

Love this book, but love the movie even more. The movie really embodies the story and renders it extra luster of magic.
