I want to start by saying that I adore Cherie Priest as an individual, and I follow her blog faithfully. That said, I'm discovering I'm not a fan of her fiction writing style. She has tendency to both show AND tell, which slows things down considerably. For a book with both Steampunky goodness and zombies I was surprisingly bored. I also had trouble connecting to any of the characters. In the plus column I did like the ideas, the very end when we finally see the titular Boneshaker, and the production of the book itself was exceptional (printed all in brown with charming drawings to indicate the chapter POV). I never read a steam punk novel before. Quite liked it. The story is nicely told and is fairly exciting. If you want to read something during your holidays, this could be nice.
I also like the cover art.
