Book Description
'Make friends with pain, and you will never be alone'. At the heart of "Born to Run" lies a mysterious tribe of Mexican Indians, the Tarahumara, who live quietly in canyons and are reputed to be the best distance runners in the world; in 1993, one of them, aged 57, came first in a prestigious 100-mile race wearing a toga and sandals. A small group of the world's top ultra-runners (and the awe-inspiring author) make the treacherous journey into the canyons to try to learn the tribe's secrets and then take them on over a course 50 miles long. With incredible energy and smart observation, McDougall tells this story while asking what the secrets are to being an incredible runner. Travelling to labs at Harvard, Nike, and elsewhere, he comes across an incredible cast of characters, including the woman who recently broke the world record for 100 miles and for her encore ran a 2:50 marathon in a bikini, pausing to down a beer at the 20 mile mark.

Well.... it is very much counter-intuition. Could the slow human actually born to run?? And the reason why we could win the game of evolution... is actually because we could run??

Well.... we have a lot of muscles and bones developed specifically useful for running. We are naked and covered with sweat gland... help us to ventilate than any other animals so that we can chase the deer till they drop dead because of over-heating.

We are not super fast, but has high endurance. Yes, I know it is unbelievable. Human running is longer per step than a horse.....

Adding these with the fact that there is a tribe in Africa really chase goat to heat-death.... and... we invented bow and arrows long after our brain grow into the current enormous size..... hmmmm.....

well... for a (very slow and lazy) runner like me well-understood the super positive energy and relaxation running could bring... will really incline to believe that we DO born to run.... so we are so happy and positive after running....

maybe... there are way to make us even happy or blissful during running too!

This is not only the best book about running I've ever read. It's as well a wonderful book. This book will rattle not only all your ideas about running but about society. I promise you're not going to look at Nike with the same eyes again.

What can you find between these pages? amazing stories of amazing people. Great characters explaining how they became better runners just becoming better persons.

Really, don't read this book unless you're ready to change your life :)
