  Taras, a journalist based in Montreal, is a seafood lover who's also interested in ethical eating. In Bottomfeeder, he details how we're rapidly destroying the world's fish stocks, through overfishing, habitat destruction and industrial pollution. His travels take him to Chesapeake Bay in the U.S., England, France, Japan, China, India and both coasts of Canada, and everywhere he finds declining stocks, greed, and an unwillingness to admit there is a problem.

  It's not all doom and gloom, however. Taras offers a number of suggestions for fish lovers who want to avoid threatened species. In general, those are the smaller fish at the bottom of the food chain. Oysters, mackerel, sardines, and locally raised, organically farmed fish get a thumbs up. Oh, and jellyfish. Feel free to eat all the jellyfish you want.
