It's a short novel (less than 200 pages !) but the readers would easily become empathetic with the protagonists, Joe, Paul and even Warren. One probably cannot be totally ignorant in baseball in order to be able to enjoy reading this book. I'm
..." definitely not the biggest baseball fan but I probably know almost enough to understand most stuff in this novel.
Though we don't like Warren, it's somehow sad to see Warren go in this fashion. How forgiving Joe is ! Warren is a very bad father; but maybe for me (who has had a good relationship with my Dad before he died), I still feel that Paul and especially Jill are very cold to their Dad. I thought one would feel sorry for one's Dad when he's dying.
It's not clear how Warren would actually change his mind and become willing to see and apologize to Joe when he was still able to. The only explanation is that the unavoidable death has finally got to him and shaken him.
