Since my opinion goes rather against the ones of the majority of people, try please to accept it without critics or insults please :)
So... could someone be so kind to explain me the plot of this book? Because until the last chapters I thought there was none. Just a sequence of hitting, raping, flogging, raping, hitting and... have I already mentioned raping?, whithout any kind of linked events. And all of this for what reason? Nice question, as soon as I find the answer I'll certainly tell you.
This is probably why I'm so disappointed. I imagined a complex plot full of catches and there was just one not even that exciting. I expected action, fights, duels and... well, I found fights about who's the top and who's the bottom (of course during a rape). I expected a strong, intelligent hero ready to take his throne back... and let's say that Damen does not exactly show a witty attitude.
I usually enjoy court plotting and scheming, but in this case it seemed that this element was added just to fill some space. It didn't have any kind of development, any kind of lue that could put the reader in alert.
Moreover, I'm still trying to figure out the characters. What kind of mental desease affects Laurent?! He does totally not make sense to me, as well as Damen does. Blame it on the external narrator ot the style that seems oblivious to the characters' feelings and thoughts, but I really don't know almost anything about any of them.
The only thing in my mind as I reached the end was "So what?" . After more or less 250 pages of almost nothing this is what I get? An open ending? What should be the goal achieved during the story? Was there even a goal?...Continua
