Changing Places describes the strange world, and the nature of connection and coincidence as two Professors of English Literature Professor Morris Zapp (or Euphoric State University), and Professor Philip Swallow, of the University of Rummage (ie. University of California and Birmingham) swap jobs, lives, and mistresses.

I personally found this book terrifically funny, and full of the same silly observational humour found in the likes of “Lucky Jim” by Kingsley Amis.

Much of the humour is based around a comparison of American (no nonsense, often brash outlook) and English – “as English as possible in the circumstances” outlook.
I read this book 30 years ago, (aged 23) and still remember it with fondness. Much like the treasured memories of those terrific films you watched and remember with fondness – this is a terrific book – and well worth a read.
