A "must have" for the aspiring creative writer's bookshelf
Oddly enough, I don't really enjoy OSC's fiction that much, but his non-fiction (about fiction-writing ) is outstanding -- particularly this one. Oddly enough, I don't really enjoy OSC's fiction that much, but his non-fiction (about fiction-writing ) is outstanding -- particularly this one. The bulk of the book concerns character, while viewpoint (which many writers seem to find very tricky) is covered in a short, clear, and very valuable section at the end.
I would say that for beginning or intermediate fiction writers, this along with Sol Stein's "Solutions For Novelists" (aka "How to Grow a Novel") are two essential reads.
