  Despite it is a story of the 70's in Germany, I could imagin similiar things are still happening right here right now. Probably it is not related to the addition of H., but anything that are addictive.

  There was an excellent analysis on the causes of drug addiction that probably still apply nowadays @ p. 226-235.

  All in all, if the external environment that caused the substances abuses doesn't change, it is not possible to stop the addiction, or it will be relapsed quickly even if stopped.
