  • Cityboy

Anderson's thinly veiled autobiography of the 12 years he spent in the City as a utilities analyst, conning his way to the top, should be obligatory GCSE aversion-therapy coursework. On second thoughts, it may have the reverse effect. Perish the thou ... (read full critics)

Having a job close to but not exactly a City job, I always have an interest to read books that is based in life working in the City. Cityboy is a successful equity research analyst, and this book is the fictional account of his successful career in the City, up to the point he realises there are things bigger and more important than money and being competitive and successful in his career.

This is obviously not your literary masterpiece, and I think the writer recognises that, so instead he made an ok attempt in delivering a witty style and cover up with plenty of bad language, but still I was expecting more fluent writing.

On the positives, according to my loved one who spent 3+ years as an equity research analyst, this is indeed a very true account of a typical research analyst on balance, and that includes the excessive use of bad language!

All in all, a insightful read for anyone who fancies a career in research - I once did, but not anymore, and am more certain and grateful that I didn't go down this route after this read.
