  From an anthropological point of view, it is stellar. The folklorists and ethnographers who recorded the stories have written concise, clear introductions to each story, giving when and where it was told, the narrator, the cultural significance and a key to interpreting the typography. It is an American publication, so its only weakness is its coverage of Canadian First Nation tales. Nevertheless, it is enjoyable for the average reader wanting a window into aboriginal world views and history via their stories.
