    Complexity è la storia della nascita del Santa Fe Institute for Complex Sciences ed è una lettura avvincente. In particolare, per le Humanities, dimostra la rugosità della cultura dominante che consente anche a visioni da essa radicalmente divergenti di prender piede e affermarsi, contro gli schemi consolidati. E' vero che negli ultimi anni - parliamo del 1990 - questo è più facile, vista la crisi sempre più accentuata del paradigma, ma è affascinante e rinfrescante scoprire che nel seno delle scienze dure e dell'economia albergano sensibilità aperte allo scorrere delle cose, liberamente critiche delle procedure mortifere che l'establishment culturale non cessa di escogitare. E' un libro che ridà speranza, anche se devo riconoscere che da allora ad oggi non vedo segni particolari del decollo di questo innovativo, terribilmente necessario approccio...

    系統,是一連串的事件,一個接著一個。正回饋、負回饋,不同的形態撞擊,形成了不同的結果。

    我們常常會陷入見樹不見林的自我意識中,就在於看不到事件的全貌;
    無法正確的找出問題,在於沒有看出問題的脈絡。

    這個觀念可以用在很多地方,如同之前所提,培養「洞悉能力」,就在於全觀的看問題、事件的能力。

    系統思考,是不錯的工具之一。

    這本書讓我始終無法讀完,原因在於它並非有系統的介紹一門學科,反到是像一個組織成立過程的描述。相對於"混沌"一書來說(我是看了此書後才開始唸"複雜"),這本書傳達的知識內容則較無系統。

The venue: Santa Fe, New Mexico. The quest: understanding complex adaptive system. The unfolding: absolutely fascinating. Waldrop is a Ph.D. in particle physics himself, which does help.
