A thriller that doesn't thrill. A court-room drama that fails on all fronts in terms of legal reasoning, argumentation and believability. The only part worth mentioning about this book is probably the starting point of an idea about this totalitarian state set in the future and legitimized by the all-encompassing health care provided to and demanded from its citizens. It's an interesting thought to entertain, and the possibility to create terror out of seemingly altruistic notions is tempting.
Sadly all that comes of this idea falls back on itself: bad story with a lousy twist near the end that tries to be clever but smells just cheap; poor dramatization of the legal proceedings that never sounds remotely probable nor exciting; uninspiring writing that tossed up some good one-liners here and there but no context or depth to back them up.
Like some of the books I've read over the years, I would've given this one zero stars if given the option.
