  What an interesting account of the Battle of Crete. Plenty of detail of the various groups involved including the Cretans. Some memorable episodes between the Germans and the resistance groups. The last paragraph in the book is about an elderly German visiting the German cemetery during the 1980's. It is more powerful than fiction. A couple of heroes of the resistance tend the graves. They sit down to take a rest and have a chat together. The elderly German stops in front of them. "I've you before", he says, looking straight at one of the old men. The old man is certain that he has never seen the German before. "I remember you" says the German, "but you don't remember me." He continues, "You were the man with a rifle resting on the stump of his forearm." The old man is amazed. The German explains that he had remained hidden under a bush when the old man and a companion had stopped next to the bush. The German then told them that he had lain there for three days without water before being found. He had never forgotten the face of the man resting his rifle on the stump of his forearm.
