Horror does not have to be about gore, blood, violence and spirits. In fact, the scariest stories are often those without the aforementioned elements. What frightens the reader most are nuances of what is there. The dead girl who participates in a hide-and-seek game (in the story, "Smee"). And, sometimes nothing can be more scary than seeing the world through the eyes of an insane person as in the story, "The Yellow Wallpaper". And, one can never be prepared when confronted by pure evil such as the murderer poor grandma faced in "A Good Man is Hard to Find". What would you do if you were there?
