It would have been impossible, in 92 pages, to guide a reader to the 1079 page realm of Infinite Jest. Burn himself points out that - as in one of Borges's genial short stories - that would have been equal to creating a map as big as the Country and, therefore, useless.
Notwithstanding, many interesting reading keys to the book are proposed. The main plots are described very shortly, but their meaning in the novel, and in DFW's world, becomes remarkably clear.
Very complete are the influences on this novel and OF this novel. The ideas of DFW about entertainment, addiction and the effacing of the self are thoroughly explained.
After reading IJ, this can be a very nice beginning to re-organize the brave new world DFW gave us as an invaluable gift.
