  • What if death took a holiday?

Surprisingly interesting "what if" book regarding the absence of death. Saramago adapts his style and punctuation to suit the topic of course. • superb!!! love it! and i always wonder how Jose Saramago can manage to write in such long sentences, without quotation marks and things like that, but we readers are still drawn to read it with ease. an abosolutely intriguing novel!

This absolutely worked. While I thought some of his other recent works, ('Seeing' for example ) didn't seem as fresh as the earlier work (Siege of Lisbon is a personal favorite), this manages to surprise and entertain on every page. The discursive, convoluted voice Saramago adopts for this novel is perfect in making a fascinating, illuminating novel out of a plot that, in lesser hands, would be little more than an incredible fable.

  • Fresh out of the oven, the 2008 Saramago book.
    Title alone is tantalizing enough.
    A must get!
