The third edition of the 'Definition of Prime Cost of Daywork Carried Out Under an Electrical Contract' has recently been published. This new definition provides guidance on the valuation of work carried out on a 'daywork basis' under an electrical ...
contract. Following consultation between the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, The Electrical Contractors Association and SELECT, the new definition was published in January 2011, and becomes effective from 1 February 2011. The new definition gives guidance on how to price labour, materials and plant in work to be measured on a 'daywork basis', together with a list of items for inclusion in the related incidental costs, overheads and profit. Advice is also given on how to build up the prime cost of labour in daywork for non-productive overtime purposes. Some model documentation is also included, illustrating how the Definition of Prime Cost may be applied in practice. This does not form part of the definition. Example calculations of the Prime Cost of Labour in Daywork are given, including a build up for non-productive overtime.
